Mushroom Pete's home
About me Hi. I'm an environmental scientist with a PhD in mycology, and a life-long interest in counting, collecting and eating wild mushrooms.

I was born in 1961, now have 2 kids (1993 + 1995), and lecture in a not-quite university in London, UK.

Fungi, soil science
Root sheathing (ectomycorrhizal) fungi
put up toadstools every autumn. The species change each year, with little ones
appearing under young trees and big ones (such as the famous scarlet cap
of fly agaric) under mature trees. I study how this
succession changes with time, soil conditions and tree health.
Should I find a Psilocybe I'd eat it, but in my country these are
not woodland species alas.

martial arts
I'm a black belt in Shorinji Kempo, which is
a new system (devised post-2nd WW in Japan)
which uses the most effective
components of jujitsu and chinese schools of karate.
I came to this after exploring
judo, aikido and shotokan karate. Choosing a martial
art is a very personal decision, and inevitably the
personality of other kenshi affects your
choice.
